Pentax introduced a new Compact System Camera (CSC) this morning with a one letter name: the Q. The company claims the 12.4-megapixel Q is the “smallest and lightest interchangeable lens camera” on the market right now. The light and compact Pentax Q uses a backlit CMOS imaging sensor that’s 1/2.3 inch in size. FCO Plans For A Greener, More Mobile Infrastructure

The Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) is embarking on a four-year ICT strategy to make it “better, greener and cheaper”. The aim is to cut costs by 30 to 40 percent compared to last year while making information available to staff wherever and whenever they need it.

The FCO ICT Strategy: 2011–2015 document specifies a heavily mobile device-oriented architecture, with an eye to security, that will allow staff to access information however they choose. Towards the end of the four years, this will allow officers to use their own choice of devices.

Light Bulbs Get Remote Controls And Lighter Loads

The humble light bulb is receiving attention as a source of wasted energy. The move from incandescent bulbs is well under way but the search for greener solutions is continuing unabated.

As governments and economy drives push for greener lighting measures, Switch Lighting, formerly SuperBulbs, has announced an LED bulb that could challenge current light sources, and chip manufacturer NXP Semiconductors (founded by Philips) is demonstrating a system that enables lights to be dimmed or turned on and off remotely using a smartphone, tablet, PC or even a TV.

The products are being displayed at the Lightfair International event, currently taking place at the Pennsylvania Convention Centre in the US.

Thousands of people in China live from recycling e-waste a highly toxic and dangerous activity. Most of the electronic waste comes from the West, anything from disused computers to mobile phones or refrigerators.

As the amount of e-waste continues to grow exponentially, so does the risk to those who recycle or handle products made from recycled material.
