The new Intel Pentium B940 “Sandy Bridge”-based processor has started popping up in available lower-end laptop models by various manufacturers.
The B940 runs at 2GHz and has dual CPU cores, but it doesn’t support HyperThreading so it isn’t able to run additional two computing processes simultaneously. It is produced using 32-nanometer technology and is compatible with the Intel H65M chipset, used in notebooks with the latest “Huron River” platform and “Sandy Bridge” Core chips.
Other specs include integrated graphics with base and maximal dynamic frequency of 650MHz and 1.1GHz respectively, 2MB of cache, and a maximal thermal design power of 35W.
According to PassMark CPU benchmark database, the processor scores 1,978 points, more than three times less than Core i7-2630QM’s 6,282 score.
The first available laptops with the Intel Pentium B940 are the latest affordable configurations of the Sony VAIO E, HP Pavilion, Lenovo G570, Toshiba L755 series, and others.
