Apple targets 14 million iPad 2 shipments in third quarter: Report

With Apple reportedly tying up much of the available production capacity in Taiwanese plants, the Cupertino-based company has reporting turned more aggressive with its ordering strategy to prepare for its peak season by placing orders for up to 14 million iPad 2s in the third quarter.
Digitimes reports that Apple will almost double the numbers of orders from the second quarter, boosting available numbers from 7-9 million units between April and July.
To prepare for the higher shipments, Apple has started stockpiling iPad 2 component inventory to minimise the risk of component shortages when its devices go into production.
Component suppliers including LG Display, Catcher Technology, TPK Holdings and Radiant Opto-Electronics Corporation are set to profit from the orders, the report suggests.

Facebook in talks to hire Obama ex-aide Gibbs: report

– Facebook, the social networking giant, is seeking to hire former White House press secretary Robert Gibbs for a senior post, The New York Times reported.
The newspaper reported on its website late on Sunday that Facebook is looking at Gibbs, once one of President Barack Obama’s closest aides, to help manage communications in advance of an initial public offering planned for early next year.
