Amazon Working on a Smartphone, Claims Citigroup

Amazon recently entered tablet segment, and it looks like the e-commerce giant is not content yet. Citibank has claimed that Amazon is
now looking to enter smartphone market. However, it seems that Amazon is deliberately positioning itself in the mid and low tier market. Just like its tablet, even Amazon smartphone is likely to be priced conservatively.
The phone will use Texas Instrument OMAP 4 processor and Qualcomm chip. The company’s Kindle Fire also uses Texas Instrument processor. Citibank claims that the components cost will be in the vicinity of $100 and the total cost will be in the range of $150 to $170. T Find more…

Apple passes RIM in U.S. smartphone share

Apples iOS is now the number two smartphone platform in the U.S., according to market research firm comScore. Apple rose to second place during the three-month period ending in May, up 1.4 percentage points to 26.6 percent of total U.S. market share.
Androidwas the only other platform that gained share of smartphone subscribers during the quarter, growing 5.1 percentage points to 38.1 percent of the total pool and retaining its number one spot among mobile operating systems.
